April 2-Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (www.tobaccofreekids.org) is fighting to free
America's youth from tobacco and to create a healthier environment. The Campaign
is one of the nation's largest non-governmental initiatives ever launched to

Action in Montgomery (www.aim-iaf.org) is a five-year-old, inter-faith, citizen-based,
non-partisan, social justice organization whose purpose is to advance quality
of life in Montgomery County, Maryland and support it elsewhere in the region.
AIM’s mission is to build a base of power so that citizens can influence
the institutions that affect their lives. AIM engages congregation leaders
in developing an agenda around issues that directly impact their lives, including

May 28-Shalom Zones
The national office of the United Methodist Church originated the idea of "Shalom
Zones" (www.shalomzone.org) or places of peace for children and communities
to build understanding, be nurtured, and grow in Christian faith. Members of
Gatchel United Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa initiated the ministry to
serve the surrounding neighborhood. Now, the outreach provided by the small nonprofit
transcends ecumenical boundaries and there are currently about 300 Shalom Zones
around the country.

June 4-Bread for the World
Bread for the World (www.bread.org) is a nationwide Christian citizens movement
seeking justice for the world's hungry people by lobbying our nation's decision
makers. Bread for the World is involved in the current ONE campaign, which
seeks to involve Americans one-by-one to urge the government to allocate an
additional one percent of the US budget toward providing basic needs like health,

November 11-Zimbabwe Orphanage Project
The AIDS pandemic in Zimbabwe is creating hundreds of orphan children everyday.
There are currently 600,000 orphans in the country which is projected to grow
to over 1,000,000 by 2010 if measures are not taken to slow the spread of AIDS.
The Zimbabwe Orphanage Project (http://www.zimbabweorphanageproject.org) focuses
on helping these children in need. With the help from volunteers from across
the world, ZOP has built an orphanage near the capital of Zimbabwe, Harare.
